Overview of this location
Kuonji on Mt Minobu, head temple of Nichiren Buddhism, a sacred site since Nichiren entered the mountain in 1274. From the great gate, the 287 stone steps of the Bodaitei climb dead straight to the main hall; in spring its weeping cherries draw visitors from across the country.
