Overview of this location
Takashima Castle in Suwa, built in 1592, when the lake's waters reached its walls — hence the name 'the floating castle of Suwa'. The present keep, rebuilt in 1970, holds a museum with a top-floor view over the lake and town. The gardens fill up in cherry and wisteria season.
