Overview of this location
The outer torii of Kitano Tenmangu. From here the approach runs dead straight to the tower gate between rows of stone lanterns. Founded in 947, it is the origin point of the Tenmangu shrines enshrining Sugawara no Michizane. On the 25th of each month stalls fill the approach and the grounds turn into a market.
