The area around Oimatsu-sha, a subsidiary shrine in the grounds. Its deity is identified with Shimada Tadaomi, said to have served Michizane, and it has long been venerated in connection with pine trees. Kitano Tenmangu is known for its plums, but old pines abound too, and small shrines like this ring the main hall.
