Overview of this location

One of the shopping streets on the way from Oarai Station toward the sea. The centre of town is built as a chain of small shopping streets — Nagamachi, Higekama, Magarimatsu, Torimachi — with the name changing every hundred metres or so. Family-run shops dominate, and owners are often out on the pavement in front of them.

Magarimatsu Shopping Street

The old shopping street at the heart of town, where 19 of its 24 shops keep a life-size character panel standing by the door. The habit began with a 2013 event that hid 54 panels around Oarai, and the street went on to adopt Saori Takebe as its official poster girl, holding a sale every year on her birthday, 22 June.
