A covered arcade running north from Shijo-dori, parallel to Shinkyogoku next door; together the two are shorthand for shopping streets in Kyoto. The Teramachi side keeps more old bookshops, stationers and art suppliers, and draws a noticeably different crowd from the school-trip throngs on Shinkyogoku.
