Overview of this location
The main gate of Rokuonji. The site began in 1397 as the Kitayama villa of Ashikaga Yoshimitsu and became a Zen temple after his death. The approach continues past this gate, and only once you have paid and passed the inner gate does the golden pavilion appear, all at once and straight ahead.
