Overview of this location
The bridge over the Katsura River that defines Arashiyama. The present structure is reinforced concrete, rebuilt in 1934, though its railings were made of wood to suit the setting. The name is said to come from the retired Emperor Kameyama, who remarked that the moon appeared to be crossing it.
