Overview of this location
The first torii gate at the entrance to Oarai Isosaki Shrine, a shrine said to date from 856, whose gates are aligned to face the sea. Its most famous gate, Kamiiso no Torii, stands on the rocks in the surf below and draws photographers from across the country at sunrise — on New Year's Day the shore fills with people waiting for the light.
