Overview of this location
A brick arched aqueduct cutting through the precinct of Nanzenji temple, built in 1888 as part of the Lake Biwa Canal — and still carrying water today. Running a Western structure through a Zen temple's grounds caused an outcry at the time; it is now one of the most photographed spots in Kyoto.
